SAM MILBY'S MOVIE "THIRD WORLD HAPPY"

“This is a semi-autobiographical story. I combined homecoming and the stories of artists not being able to pursue their dreams to build the story of Third World Happy,” ani Salcedo.

Ano ang matututunan ng mga manonood sa Third World Happy? “I wanted to tell this story to remind people that if they are given the chance to pursue their dreams, they should never waste it. Most people never get the chance,” sagot ni Salcedo.

Sa isang review na inilathala sa South Korea, sinabi ni Kim Se-jin sa website ng Jeonju International Film Festival, “The film carefully unfolds Wesley’s painful past one by one while he keeps meeting his close friends living in a life different with the dreams which they had in their youth and his ex-lover which broke up with him when he left for the US. She is living her tough life with a 13-year old son and her mother now. Finally, he confronts the weight of the heavy time lying between the one who left and the one who was left during the funeral. The film consoles the audience and Wesley by showing sincere strength of the everyday life and the process of his reconciliation with his painful past.”

Si Ria Limjap ng Spot.ph naman ay nagsabing kahit hindi siya isang avid fan ng acoustic heartthrob ay naantig pa rin siya sa pagganap ni Milby sa Third World Happy. “Sam Milby does a good job in portraying a lost balikbayan, floating in a stew of jetlag, emotional baggage, and Manila traffic. Dazed and depressed, drinking endless cup of instant coffee in disposable cups, Sam’s Wesley has to face his painful past: the girl he left behind, the tragic death of his parents, and now another beloved family member gone,” ani Limjap.

Nakakuha rin ng papuri ang pagganap ni Sam bilang Wesley mula sa mga kritiko ng Cinefilipinas.blogspot.com. “Milby doesn’t bare his abs but gets to effectively bare the angst of his character.”

Huwag palampasin ang Third World Happy sa 10 piling SM Theaters sa buong bansa—SM North Edsa, SM Megemall, SM Manila, SM Fairview, SM Sta. Mesa, SM Southmall, SM Marikina, SM Cebu at SM Iloilo simula Mayo 25 hanggang 31. Makisaya sa exciting Fan’s Day ni Sam Milby sa Mayo 25, Miyerkules, 3 p.m. sa SM North Edsa.

LG BRINGS NEXT GEN, CINEMA 3D VIEWING TO FILIPINO HOMES

More Filipinos will soon embrace 3D viewing with their families through the dawn of next generation 3D TV technology.

LG Electronics (LG) today announced the market debut of its CINEMA 3D TV, which combines the first officially certified “Flicker-Free” 3D picture in the industry with comfortable, battery-free, lightweight glasses; a brighter picture; more flexible viewing positions; and a wide viewing angle. Together, the new features make CINEMA 3D perfect for watching 3D in groups with family or friends.

“When it comes to watching 3D entertainment for longer periods in greater comfort, LG’s CINEMA 3D TV is the perfect choice,” said Cyd Montebon, product marketing head of LG Electronics Philippines. “We’re eager to show everyone just how exciting our new 3D TVs are and why we’re confident this will become the industry standard for 3D TV technology.”

Majority of the 3D TV brands last year used the shutter glasses (SG) technology, this year LG’s CINEMA 3D range employs Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, which addresses the problems that hampered the enjoyment of earlier 3D TVs. CINEMA 3D uses a polarized film on the screen to deliver different images for the left and right eyes. These images are then matched up with CINEMA 3D glasses and the result is a 3D picture that is Flicker-Free – as certified by European quality assurance agencies TÜV and Intertek – with less crosstalk, meaning no more dizziness and eye fatigue that sometimes occurs with wearing shutter glasses.

And because they’re completely free of electrical and moving parts, LG’s CINEMA 3D glasses weigh no more than 16 grams, making them comfortable to wear even for extended periods of time. At a very affordable cost, it is now possible for entire families and groups of friends to enjoy 3D at home together. This key benefit was underscored at the recent National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas when Avatar director James Cameron predicted that cheaper, lightweight polarized glasses would need to become the industry standard for 3D TVs to become truly embraced by consumers.

Further contributing to higher picture quality is LG’s Light Boost, a thin film that ensures 3D images are shown at their full brightness. What’s more, a wide viewing angle and flexible viewing positions make CINEMA 3D ideal for watching in groups or while sitting or lying down in any spot in front of the screen.

CINEMA 3D also addresses another problem that affected previous 3D sets – the lack of content. With a new, highly advanced 2D to 3D conversion feature, CINEMA 3D TVs deliver top quality 3D on the fly, meaning viewers will never be short of good 3D content to watch.

Besides superb picture quality in 2D and 3D, CINEMA 3D TV boasts all the advantages of LG’s Smart TV technology. With its simple Home Dashboard and Magic Motion Remote Control, LG CINEMA 3D TV makes it easy to access a full array of premium content via top global providers, locally sourced shows like that of ABS-CBN’s iWanTV, and the growing range of LG Apps designed specifically for use on its Smart TVs.
In Manila, LG demonstrated that 3D technology has come of age with CINEMA 3D. By introducing the next generation technologies, LG is poised to take 3D and Smart TVs to new heights and into living rooms not just in the Philippines, but all over the world.

GEARING UP FOR SUMMER WITH TOMS

Have you ever done anything that pushed yourself to the limit? Whether it is to summit a peak, dive under the ocean or visit an exotic country, summer seems like the perfect time to do it.
A man named Blake Mycoskie traveled to Argentina for a vacation in 2006. During this trip, he saw firsthand that having shoes can be considered a luxury for some children. He was inspired to build a sustainable business model that gave as much as it got.
After selling the first pair of TOMS after returning from Argentina, Blake has given over a million pairs of shoes to children all over the world. How was this possible? With the commitment that for every pair of shoes sold, another pair will be given to a child in need.
Mixing fashion and philanthropy makes perfect sense for longevity in the shoe business. Sure the advocacy sounds great, but fans of TOMS all over the world also love it because it’s easily one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes one will ever own.

     APRIL 5, 2011  "WALKING BAREFOOT"

Walking Without Shoes for One Day with TOMS

What maybe basic to most of the people in the world like food, shelter, clothing may be considered a luxury in some parts of the globe. Fact 1 : In many developing countries, children must walk barefoot for miles to get to school, fetch fresh wear and seek medical help. Fact 2: Hundreds of millions of children are at risk of injury from walking on rough terrain and are unable to afford medical attention to treat these wounds. Fact 3: Children with access to education, clothing, shoes and food become healthier and happier individuals. They have a higher chance at succeeding in life and creating a positive effect in their communities.
An American traveler and entrepreneur, Blake Mycoskie, saw these realities for himself during a vacation in Argentina in 2006. Spurred to create a solution that will have a direct impact on a child’s life, he created TOMS Shoes with one simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.
It became a successful endeavor and within a few months, he was able to return to Argentina with his friends, family and staff to give out the first 10,000 pairs of TOMS shoes to the children he met. From there, TOMS became more and more successful in raising awareness and has become a global brand, selling in many countries and giving out shoes in several countries, enabling children to dream of a better life.
Since May 2006, TOMS Shoes has given over 1,000,000 pairs of shoes to children in need through the support of their growing loyal and passionate clientele. To raise more awareness and support for the One for One Movement, TOMS has invited Filipinos to join the One Day Without Shoes by walking barefoot last April 5, 2011 in the Trinoma Park, Quezon City.
TOMS fans and media alike experienced briefly how life would be like without shoes. It was an act of solidarity with compassion and a burst of energy and passion for a better world for children.
After five years in business, "One for One" model is more than just a novelty project. TOMS has expanded its line, won the 2007 People's Design Award at Cooper-Hewitt's National Design Awards, became a member of the Clinton Global Initiative, and landed shelf space in Whole Foods.
Be one with us in raising awareness about the problem. Participate in the One for One Movement and be part of the solution.
