Magic Moments with John Lloyd Cruz

John Lloyd springs surprises to Filipinos in new Magic campaign

Leave it to celebrity heartthrob John Lloyd Cruz to take magic from onscreen to offscreen, one extraordinary surprise at a time. As part of the new campaign for Universal Robina Corporation’s (URC) Magic Crackers, longtime endorser John Lloyd goes around the metro to make magical moments come to life for Pinoys. Individuals get the surprise of their lives as Magic and John Lloyd turn their daily routines into something exceptional and memorable.

Magic endorser John Lloyd Cruz surprised OFW couple Alvin and Maribeth Pace with a Kabuhayan Package at the Lingkod Pinoy Center in Robinsons Galleria
Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) Alvin and Maribeth Pace were just renewing their work visas at the Lingkod Pinoy Center in Robinsons Galleria when John Lloyd and the rest of the Magic team appeared to award them with a Kabuhayan Package from URC. “Nagulat naman ako. Nung umupo si John Lloyd sa tabi ko, akala ko nakiupo lang siya,” said Alvin. “Surprise talaga ‘to kasi hindi naman namin in-expect na may ganito pala ang Magic.” “Masaya talaga at tsaka nagpapasalamat na kami ang napili, na at least sa mga simpleng tao, kami ang nabigyan ng swerte sa tulong ng URC,” said Maribeth. She also shared that the Kabuhayan Package might just be what they need to begin their own business. “Ine-negosyo namin ‘to, baga pwede mag sari-sari store. Para sa isang maliit na bagay, malaking simula siya,” she said.

Hardworking payroll supervisor Marites Vera Cruz, a 45-year-old mom of two, has been with URC for over two decades, through thick and thin, especially now that she’s battling cancer. During their weekly department meeting, Tess was shocked when John Lloyd walked in the room and looked for her.“Parang nakalutang pa rin ako, hindi pa nagsi-sink-in sa akin,” she says right after John Lloyd personally handed her gift certificates for an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Galleria Suites, Dimsum lunch and buffet dinner at Crowne Plaza’s Xin Tian Di and 7 Corners respectively, for Tess, her kids and her mother. Robinsons gift certificates completed their weekend bonding package. Keeping a positive outlook in life, Marites shares that she still considers herself blessed despite of life’s trials. “Madaming blessings na nangyayari sa buhay ko, gaya nitong Magic na lalong hindi expected.”

Twin sidewalk vendors Maria Theresa Paralejas and Maria Lourdes Umandap enjoyed twice the surprise with a Kabuhayan Package from Magic man John Lloyd Cruz
At the 24-hour Octopus store in Mandaluyong City, a surprise was awaiting Maria Lourdes Umandap and her twin sister Maria Theresa Paralejas. Both known as “Kambal”, Maria Lourdes and Maria Theresa are 51-year-old sidewalk vendors who are two of the store’s most loyal customers. When they dropped by Octopus Store one day to replenish their stocks, they were caught off-guard when their suking tindero turned out to be none other than the matinee idol himself. Her second-guessing and bouts of confusion were quickly replaced with tears of joy as John Lloyd presented her with a Kabuhayan Package from URC, this time housed in a trolley specially made for her and her sister to use for their daily peddling. “Masayang masaya kami na ‘yung store namin ang napili ng Magic. I feel blessed na matutulungan namin sila ng ganito, kasi ito pang habang buhay niyang pwedeng mapakinabangan,” revealed Luz, Francis’ wife.

Lydia Buenaventura, a veteran educator at the Bagong Ilog Pasig Elementary School, gets her magic moment with John Lloyd, plus a Kabuhayan Package
In his latest endeavor, John Lloyd sneaked inside the Bagong Ilog Pasig Elementary School to surprise another deserving Pinoy with a Kabuhayan Package. This time, it was for 63-year-old grade school teacher Lydia Buenaventura. The veteran educator has honed the talents and nurtured the minds of many students in her 41-year teaching career and plans to retire in two years. Lydia and the rest of her co-teachers were in the middle of a meeting when John Lloyd suddenly walked in and disrupted the meeting. Seconds later, Lydia found herself face to face with the charming actor who was congratulating her on the advance retirement gift. “Masaya ang feeling ko talaga,” she said. “Pag nag-retire ako, plano kong alagaan ang mga apo ko at mag-negosyo. Ngayon dahil sa Magic, pwede na akong magtayo ng tindahan.”

Like Alvin, Maribeth, Tess, Lydia and twins Maria Lourdes and Maria Theresa, everyday routines can be transformed into life-changing and memorable moments, all it takes is a little bit of Magic.
