Gear Up for the Timex 226 Bohol Triathlon
Amazing things come to our minds whenever we hear our beloved tourist spot, Bohol. Immediately, we think of the cute tarsiers and the picturesque eye-candies, the chocolate hills. But do you know there’s way more awesomeness in this paradise island waiting to be discovered?
Just take the municipality of Anda for one. Reminiscent of the old virgin island of Boracay some years ago, this place is truly endowed by nature with breathtaking white sand beaches, lush mangrove forests, emerald islets set over crystal clear waters and cave springs which have been recognized as potential tourist spots as early as 1980’s. All of the beaches in Anda boast of very clean and clear, blue water since the town is free from the industrial pollution as an interior and isolated town in the eastern part of Bohol. At present, these are considered the best beaches in the province of Bohol, continuing to lure beach loving tourists to its sunbleached shores of sugar-fine white sands year after year.
Every place in Anda attunes you to the sight and sound of nature, its historical past and spiritual passion of the community. Apart from having the longest stretch of white sands in Bohol, it is about hidden wonders, from the chilly and crystal clear underground pools to the fascinating traces of prehistory and contemporary mysticism. No wonder locals take pride in calling it "Bohol's next premier eco-cultural destination".
On Dec. 3, 2011, Anda, Bohol is set to be the place where another Philippine triathlon history shall be made as TIMEX launches the TIMEX 226 Bohol Triathlon. Nine long years after the first iron distance triathlon was held, 226 kilometers of raw power, endurance and sheer iron will shall unfold once again. The longest the country’s ever witnessed, it’s the ultimate test for the premiere triathletes of the land. And this time, everything’s bound to level up- the intensity, the action, even the picture-perfect track.
The man responsible for bringing this monumental sports event to life is Bike King owner/Club president & ironman finisher, Raul Cuevas. A triathlon & a veteran cycling event organizer, he’s nothing but proud to have found the perfect venue to once again host this rare, historic race— the undiscovered paradise that is Anda, Bohol. Hosting the event is Cong. Art Yap of Bohol’s third district who proudly opens up his hometown, ready to uncover another tourism hotspot abounding with hidden treasures before the world.
“My vision is to bring back to the Philippines the glory of hosting a full iron-distance triathlon competition. And we are going to make it happen,” says Raul. TIMEX 226 is not solely about the sport. It’s also about helping out tourism in the country. Usually, people go abroad to join iron distance races. This time, we’re bringing it here. And we’re giving the full experience: a mystical journey of the uncharted multi-sport venue’s unspoiled natural wonders and attractions plus the heart-pumping triathlon action. Here, unlike in most events abroad, families can gather round and cheer during the race and go for a soothing time to bond as they visit the bountiful tourist spots after. Everyone can have the adventure of a lifetime,” adds Art.
And of course just like nine years ago, TIMEX will be there to power up ace sports icons and breed future triathletes. In fact, during the first race held in Matabungkay, Batangas, future celebrated tri-athletes already made their marks in what was then a young & highly specialized sporting event. Timex Multisport Team's first Filipino member, the future Ms. Ani De Leon-Brown, won 1st place in this event's Women's Category while Ironman Philippines' future Ironman CamSur champion Noy Jopson won 2nd place in the men's division.
Clearly, even nine years ago, this 226-kilometer race was already destined to produce world-class Filipino athletes. And what better proof to this than the fact that as early as 2002, world-class brand, TIMEX was already a partner of this emerging multi-sport event.
Timex is no doubt our official time-partner in all major multi-sport events. It’s the only time-keeper to design special commemorative watches to celebrate our athletes’ milestones in all these historic triathlon competitions. Once again, Timex watches will match our athletes’ strength, their endurance, and their triumphs by being the only timepiece to bring within Filipinos’ reach this rare full iron distance triathlon. Recently, it even held a special send-off to all participating Timex athletes.
Witness as Timex challenge our new breed of athletes as they take on this generation's toughest triathlon event. Who will conquer? Who will outrun the rest?
