Yahoo! Launches Purple Hunt For The Whole Family

Yahoo! Launches Purple Hunt
For The Whole Family

MANILA, 3 October, 2011 – Spurred by the popularity and success of two earlier campaigns, Yahoo! the premier digital media company together with co-presenter Globe Telecom, announced the launch of Purple Hunt 3.0 Family Edition http://purplehunt.com.ph, giving participants a chance to win a Presidio condominium unit at Lakefront from Camella Condo Homes.  Airphil Express, McDonalds, MyPhone and SM North Edsa also join Yahoo! on this fun, family-friendly online treasure hunt.

The four-week long online adventure aims to bring the whole family together to explore the Web, discover the various Yahoo! properties and spend quality time bonding. Guided by three values: Pledge together; Surf together; Play together, the treasure hunt is a fun experience that promotes responsible use of the Internet by educating parents and their children about online safety and netiquette, while standing a chance to win exciting prizes. This includes Globe Tattoo Prepaid Broadband Stick, Flight tickets to Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Busuanga, Cagayan de Oro and Singapore from Airphil Express, McDonald’s Birthday Party Packages and MyPhone mobile phones.

A family consisting of at least one parent and one child above the age of 13 is eligible to participate in the treasure hunt by following three simple steps: signing up, creating a team and taking the Yahoo! Safely pledge. Each team will then complete a set of assignments using different Yahoo! properties to unlock a series of clues revealed at various times in a day on associated social media sites, offsite locations and traditional media channels.

“At Yahoo!, we seek to infuse our campaigns and all that we do with a touch of “purple”. We want to pursue our passion to drive positive change in the Philippines, become an essential part of the life of Filipino families and make a meaningful contribution to the local society,” said Arlene Amarante, Country Ambassador of Yahoo! Philippines. “The success of Purple Hunt proves that it is more than just an online adventure; it is an extension of Yahoo!’s brand values of being human, innovative, relevant and fun.”

Yahoo! is a long time advocate for Internet safety and has made it a company priority to protect children by creating tools for safer online experiences. Yahoo! Safely (ph.safely.yahoo.com) is localized and delivered across 27 countries in 14 languages. It informs parents, educators and young adults about how to minimize risks online and on mobile devices, and provides guidance on how to use specific Yahoo! products safely.

Getting started:

To begin the treasure hunt, a family member has to follow five steps:
1)    Sign up for The Yahoo! Purple Hunt Family Edition at http://purplehunt.com.ph
2)    Register the rest of the family’s existing Yahoo! Mail accounts and identify the role of each member, e.g. father, son, etc
3)    Nominate a parent/legal guardian who will be the main player for the Purple Hunt game:
4)    Create a team name for your family
5)    Pledge to Yahoo! Safely. Once the family makes the pledge, a mail will be sent to the primary player i.e. parent with a link to unlock the first task

Competition mechanics:

Each participating family will have a set of assignments to complete. The assignments will take treasure hunters through Yahoo! properties and other channels such as social media, mobile, offline and traditional media channels to unlock the clues.

Yahoo! has partnered with GMA Network, Magic 89.9 and Fox International Channels (Fox, Star World, Star Movies, Fox Family Movies, Fox Crime, FX, tvN, National Geographic, Channel V) to reveal clues at various times in the day. The clues are marked by the Yahoo! Purple Hunt logo and will be airing together with safety messages on the radio and TV programs on partner networks.

Steps to winning prizes:

Each sponsor will have special assignments that participants can complete in and stand a chance to win instant prizes, in addition to winning the grand prize – a Presidio condominium unit at Lakefront City, central from Vista Land valued at P4 million.
